How to Connect with Nature to Get Answers

By: Sonia Di Maulo, Founder and Lead Feedback Enthusiast

“Nature holds all the answers – go outside and ask some questions – open your heart and listen to the response!” -Amethyst Wyldfyre

Polling Fans

This week on my Facebook Fan page for my new book, The Apple in the Orchard, I posted this question:

“Nature holds all the answers – go outside and ask some questions – open your heart and listen to the response!” What questions can we ask? Select one, many or share your own.

  • Nature is resilient – how can I be resilient?
  • Nature shares – how can I share?
  • Nature supports – how can I support?
  • Nature is serene – how can we all be serene?
  • Nature forgives – how can I forgive?
  • Nature has purpose – what is my purpose?
The big winner so far is: Nature is resilient – how can I be resilient?

Resilience

“the power or ability to return to the original form, position, etc., after being bent, compressed, or stretched; elasticity.” – Dictionary.com

How often do you feel stretched, bent, or compressed?  What causes this state?

Over the years, I have learned that I am at the root of my stress. I create the situations that I find myself in.

And I am responsible for making a change.

Connecting with nature helps me to re-focus, stay grounded, and return to original form.

My Backyard Refuge

I often sit still, listen, and breathe. Many deep breaths. And suddenly I feel at peace.

Re-focusing in this way allows me to continue with renewed energy and enthusiasm.

It’s in every leader’s self-interest to actively encourage employees to care of themselves, and to create cultures that value regular renewal — physically, mentally, and emotionally — as a key component of sustainable high performance. – Tony Schwartz

This weekend, kicks off camping season and camping with family and friends always makes me feel whole.

We are, after all, part of an interconnected living system! (For more on using living systems models in your work and life, you can pick up a copy of my new book.)

What about you?

  • What do you do to remain resilient?
  • How do you feel when you connect with nature?
  • What questions can you ask?
  • What answers have been provided?
